Ferry Beach State Park

A ten-minute drive east of Saco and the perfect place for a picnic, Ferry Beach State Park offers a view of miles of white sand beaches between the Saco River and Pine Point. This 100-acre park also offers a peak at a stand of black gum (tupelo) trees, rare for the elevation. Before highways, a ferry crossing at the Saco River used to move from beach to beach, as they were safe and easy transportation routes before highways were so common. Hence, the name Ferry Beach. Scarborough Beach State Park

Just over 15 miles northeast of Saco is Scarborough Beach State Park. The park was acquired through the Land for Maines Future program. This beach is the perfect place for swimming, as it offers water temperatures in the high 60s throughout July and August. Each spring, endangered Piping Plovers nest on the beach.
