Tuesday, May 13 6:30pm Camden Public Library 55 Main Street, Camden, Maine. FREE! . Dr. Beatrice Szantyr of Lincoln, Maine will present a slide show and discussion of Lyme disease in Maine at the Camden Public Library on Tuesday, May 13, at 6:30 pm.  She will focus on awareness, risk factors, prevention and symptomology of the disease. Dr. Szantyr is a board certified internist and pediatrician who has spent several years researching & educating about Lyme disease in New England. YOUR HEALTH AND YOUR BACKYARD...Strategies to safeguard your family from tick and mosquito borne diseases. Join Ed, Bob and Barb Maurais of Mainely Ticks and Ted St. Amand of Atlantic Pest Solutions for one of these informational presentations followed by a question and answer session devoted to educating you on: The life cycle and habitat of deer ticks and mosquitoes; Tick identification and appropriate tick removal techniques; Mosquito and Tick-borne diseases; Integrated Pest Management Recommendations, such as personal protection strategies and more. Ed and Bob Maurais are co-owners of Mainely Ticks serving York and Cumberland Counties, and licensed Commercial Master Applicators in the State of Maine. Barb Maurais is an educator and maintains the company website www.mainelyticks.com. Ted St. Amand is the owner of Atlantic Pest Solutions and is a Commercial Master Applicator in both Maine and New Hampshire. He is a registered IPM Practitioner and is a current board member on the Maine IPM Council bringing thirty years of pest management experience to the table.

2007 Past Events

Tuesday, May 1 & Wednesday, May 2 Augusta, ME May Lyme Awareness month in Maine. The Maine Legislature voted on a resolution proclaiming May 2007 as Lyme Awareness Month in Maine.  Also adopted was a resolution supporting federal legislation HR 741, the Lyme and Tick-borne Disease Prevention, Education, and Research Act of 2007.

Tuesday, May 1 Camden, ME  Tick Talk - Camden Public Library 6pm.   Dr. Beatrice Szantyr of Lincoln, Maine presented a slide show and discussion on Lyme disease at the Camden Public Library at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1.

Wednesday, May 2 Wells, ME Lunch ’n’ Learn Laudholm Farms at the Wells Reserve. Noon - 1pm. Lunch ‘n’ Learn: Tick talk with Chuck Lubelczyk of the Maine Medical Center. Lubelczyk illuminated the itty bitty critters responsible for spreading West Nile Virus and Lyme Disease.  Participants brought a bag lunch and a mug for free organic coffee and tea. Thursday, May 10 Auburn, ME  Tick Talk - Auburn Public Library 6pm.         Members of the public joined Bea Szantyr MD & Constance Dickey, RN at the Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring Street, Auburn, ME to learn more about Lyme disease - symptoms & diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation, ,prevention, resources, 2 standards of care, patient stories & support.    Bob & Barb of Mainely Ticks & Ted & Duncan from Atlantic Pest Solutions had displays and were available to discuss personal protection strategies & options before and after the Tick Talk. Saturday, May 19 Gray, ME  Learn about Lyme disease 11am - 2pm. The Maine Medical Center Research Institute had lots of information about ticks and control of tick-borne diseases like Lyme Disease. Participants learned how to identify the different types of ticks found in Maine, and got tips on prevention & basic information on the disease itself. Maine Wildlife Park info link.
